Nominations announced for the 2018 FCCA Awards

Nominations were today announced for the Film Critics Circle of Australia annual Awards for Australian film. Winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Thursday 4 April at the Paddington/Woollahra RSL. Tickets are $25 and include a light supper, and are now on sale.

 

Competing for Best Film are Breath, Cargo, Ladies in Black, Strange Colours and Sweet Country.

 

A total of ten feature films received nominations, with Boy Erased, JIrga, The Merger, Upgrade and West of Sunshine completing the list.

 

Breath and Ladies in Black lead the tally with a total of nine nominations each closely followed by Sweet Country with eight. Strange Colours received four while Boy Erased and Cargo received three nominations each. Upgrade received two nominations, and a single nomination went to each of Jirga, The Merger and West of Sunshine.

 

In 2018, the Best Documentary category was strong with 30 documentaries in contention. From this impressive field, six films were nominated. The films nominated for Best Documentary are Backtrack Boys, Ghosthunter, Gurrumul, Have You See the Listers?, Island of the Hungry Ghosts and Midnight Oil 1984.
